Why Filipino Workers Are Choosing Chile
For years, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have built better lives in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Middle East. Chile is the new opportunity — a safe, stable country in South America where English-speaking Filipino nannies, housekeepers and caregivers are genuinely wanted, and where competition is still low.
Fair salary and real protections
You work under a proper contrato de trabajadora de casa particular (household worker contract), with a legal salary in Chilean pesos, plus enrolment in the national pension fund (AFP) and public health system (FONASA) — the same rights as a local worker.
A safe, stable country
Chile is one of the safest and most politically stable nations in Latin America, with a warm, family-centred culture. There's a growing Filipino community and a Philippine Embassy in Santiago for consular support.
Your English is an advantage
Chilean families often choose Filipino helpers because you speak English and can teach it to their children. You don't need Spanish to start — you'll pick up everyday Spanish quickly, and daily life in Santiago is very manageable.
A path you can build on
Legal residency through the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones, renewable contracts, and the stability to support your family back home — this is a real long-term route, not a one-time gig.
Ethical, Legal Recruitment — The Way It Should Be
Too many aspiring OFWs are hurt by illegal recruiters who charge huge fees and vanish. MaidOn does the opposite. For household service workers, Philippine law (through the Department of Migrant Workers, formerly POEA) says you should never pay a placement fee — and we honour that completely. We work transparently, we know each employer personally, and we help you understand every document, from your DFA passport and NBI clearance to your Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) and your Chilean work visa.
| MaidOn | Illegal recruiter | |
|---|---|---|
| Placement fee | None — free for the worker | High, illegal fees upfront |
| The employer | Real, verified family in Chile | Unknown, fake or "we'll see" |
| Your papers | Legal visa, contract, OEC guidance | Missing or "fixed on arrival" |
| DMW / OWWA process | Explained and respected | Bypassed or ignored |
| Support on the ground | Team in the Philippines and Chile | You're left alone abroad |

Life in Chile for Filipino Workers
Wondering what daily life is really like? Santiago and its neighbourhoods — Las Condes, Vitacura, Providencia, Lo Barnechea — are modern, safe and well-connected. The cost of living is reasonable, Filipino grocery items are increasingly available, and there's an active Filipino community that celebrates fiestas and Sunday gatherings. You'll find Catholic parishes, remittance and padala services to send money home, and a Philippine Embassy in Santiago if you ever need consular help. Many families provide your own room, meals and days off as part of a live-in arrangement, so you can save more of what you earn.

Yes. Every placement comes with a legal Chilean work visa (Residencia Temporaria through the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones) and a written household worker contract, plus enrolment in the pension (AFP) and health (FONASA) systems.
Do I need to speak Spanish to work in Chile? +
No. Many Chilean families want you precisely because you speak English. Basic Spanish helps with daily life and you'll learn it quickly, but it's not required to begin.
Is Chile safe for OFWs? +
Chile is among the safest and most stable countries in South America, with a warm culture, a growing Filipino community and a Philippine Embassy in Santiago for support.
What documents do I need — passport, NBI, OEC? +
